13 October 2026, 07:15

Royal Heijmans will be Eindhoven Airport’s preferred construction partner to year-end 2030. Both parties signed the agreement today. They also announced that the construction company will carry out additional work on the airport’s apron.

Highlights

  • Royal Heijmans and Eindhoven Airport have signed a construction partnership agreement for the period to year-end 2030, for structural maintenance and alterations to airport buildings.
  • This ties in with Heijmans’ current work for the airport, including the terminal extension.
  • In addition, Heijmans will next year carry out the apron renovation at Eindhoven Airport, including the renewal of asphalt, concrete, lighting and drainage systems.

Follow-up to current work

The construction partnership contract marks the continued expansion of the collaboration between Heijmans and Eindhoven Airport. Heijmans is currently working on the terminal extension at Eindhoven Airport, as well as infrastructure works on the airport’s apron. In addition, early next year, Heijmans start work on the runway renovation at the airport, for which the Ministry of Defence is responsible, which will run to 18 July. The airport will be completely closed during that period.

The construction partner contract covers the structural maintenance and alterations to various buildings at the airport and runs to year-end 2030, with refurbishment work being carried out while the airport is closed. In addition, Heijmans is helping to draw up a new long-term maintenance strategy for the airport. For Heijmans, this work falls under the so-called ‘recurring business’ in the Working segment. Heijmans also plays a similar role as one of the Main Contractors at Amsterdam Airport Schiphol.

“A good international connection via a high-quality, future-proof airport is important for the entire Brainport Eindhoven region. We are proud that, as the airport’s construction partner, we can continue to play our part in this, ensuring that everyone feels welcome at the airport and that travel is facilitated as effectively as possible,” says Arjan Hengeveld, director of non-residential building at Heijmans.

“With Heijmans as our preferred construction partner, we are reinforcing the continuity and quality of the maintenance and development of Eindhoven Airport. Over the coming years, we will be working together on various key projects and on a long-term maintenance strategy for our airport. This partnership will help us to pool our knowledge and experience and continue to build a future-proof airport and a strong link with the Brainport region,” says Olaf Broeders, Head of Airport Development at Eindhoven Airport.

Apron renovation

During the aforementioned airport closure, Heijmans will also begin work on renovating the apron at Eindhoven Airport. This involves the section between the runway and the terminal. The tarmac surfaces are nearing the end of their useful life, as are some of the concrete surfaces and perimeter lighting. Heijmans was awarded this contract following a tender process, which is unrelated to the construction partner contract.
