Heijmans is one of six partners that today signed a framework contract with energy company Gasunie. This is a 10-year contract for the maintenance and management of existing natural gas pipelines, plus the construction of new pipelines for hydrogen, green gas and CO2, among other things.
The energy transition is resulting in numerous new projects, while the maintenance of existing infrastructure also remains crucial. This new contract includes a maximum investment volume of € 4 billion for all six partners, spread over a 10-year period. As this is a framework agreement, it is not currently possible to indicate what amounts this contract involves for Heijmans.
Sustainable leader
The shift in focus from natural gas to new energy sources such as hydrogen, CO2, green gas and thermal energy requires a new approach to procurement and infrastructure development for Gasunie. This includes an emphasis on safety, emission-free operations and social responsibility. These principles are an excellent fit with Heijmans’ own business strategy, which includes striving to be a sustainable leader.
“The Netherlands is grappling with a number of major social issues. These complex challenges call for direction and connection. Because we feel involved in the future of the Netherlands, we want to play a prominent role on this front. We are taking a step forward and making the move to become a sustainable leader. Heijmans ensures that people can live, work and connect comfortably,” says Bart Smolders, director of Infra at Heijmans.
Heijmans previously concluded similar framework contracts related to strategic partnerships with TenneT (high voltage/electricity) and Vitens (water).
