Recoflex Vélo is a high-quality, innovative asphalt mix designed with flexibility as its main property. The mix is also strong and pliable, which offers very high resistance against fatigue. It uses the existing stable, high-load-bearing substrate or foundation. The pliability of Recoflex Vélo means that, despite thickness of just 45 mm, the asphalt mix is more than capable of withstanding the dynamic loads exerted by traffic.
Less nuisance for local residents and traffic
Recoflex Vélo can be laid in an extremely short space of time because only a single layer of asphalt needs to be applied to the existing foundation. The upshot of this is that less material needs to be transported, thus minimizing nuisance to local residents and traffic. Complete reconstruction is unnecessary. Thanks to Recoflex Vélo, only a few days are needed to construct, upgrade or renovate bicycle paths or bicycle highways.
Saving on costs
Recoflex Vélo is cheaper than traditional asphalt solutions due to such factors as the existing substrate being used. Less excavation work is required, fewer vehicles need to access the site to supply and remove foundation materials, and fewer additional layers of asphalt need to be applied. Recoflex Vélo is a high-quality asphalt mix and on balance it will soon yield cost savings of over 25%.
Easily recognizable and comfortable for cyclists
Recoflex Vélo can be used both for creating new cycling infrastructure and for replacing and upgrading existing road surfacing. In the case of a cycle route or bicycle highway being constructed over an existing route, for instance, an existing street with clinker bricks can be converted to form a recognizable section of the cycle route or bicycle highway. Thanks to the texture of the surfacing, Recoflex Vélo ensures optimum comfort and minimum rolling resistance for cyclists.
Sustainable asphalt solution
Recoflex Vélo is better for the environment because it needs less processing and fewer materials than traditional multi-layered asphalt structures. Compared to a tradition triple-layered asphalt structure, Recoflex Vélo enables a 45% reduction in CO2 emissions. Moreover, Recoflex Vélo enables high-grade recycling at the end of its technical lifespan, and thus allows new asphalt to be created. Collectively, these benefits make Recoflex Vélo an extremely sustainable product.
Colours and variants
Recoflex Vélo comes in two colours: black and red-brown. Furthermore, Recoflex Vélo can be supplied in a variety of mix variants. Options are available for aggregate size (0/8 or 0/11) and type of binding agent. This is customized in consultation with the client. Recoflex Vélo comes with CE certification and a three-year warranty (as standard).
Options for use
Before laying Recoflex Vélo, it is important for the substrate or existing foundation to offer enough load-bearing capacity for expected traffic levels. This generally involves using a sand or gravel substrate. In some cases, conditions can be met using a sturdy clay substrate and a foundation with good load-bearing capacity. Recoflex Vélo can also be used on clinker brick streets and cracked asphalt and concrete structures. Heijmans is able to use falling weight deflection measurements to calculate the load-bearing capacity of the substrate and to ascertain whether the intended location is suitable for using Recloflex Vélo.
