Heijmans takes over the Brinck Group

December 16, 2013

Heijmans is acquiring the Brinck Group BV in Zeewolde as a means of strengthening its market position in supplying, installing, servicing and maintaining smart gas, electricity, water and heat meters. The Brinck Group, one of whose entities was founded in 1886, serves clients such as Vitens and Liander, and employs approximately 95 persons. The activities of the Brinck Group supplement and expand the activities of the Cable & Pipeline Systems department of Heijmans Civil Engineering.

General Manager Gert Hagendoorn of the Brinck Group: "Pooling strengths with Heijmans enables us to continue to innovate and grow. In addition, we will be conquering new markets in collaboration with Heijmans. Furthermore, we will be gaining greater clout this way. Heijmans and Brinck complement each other."

Bert van der Els, Heijmans CEO: "The Brinck Group’s activities perfectly match our ambitions and facilitate the accelerated development of smart energy and smart grids. This means that not only Heijmans Civil engineering, but Property Development and Residential Building as well can increasingly unburden their clients."

Today Heijmans and the Brinck Group signed the agreement pursuant to which the Brinck Group will become a 100% Heijmans subsidiary. The pooling of strengths is consistent with Heijmans’s ambition to evolve into a service provider on the civil engineering market so that it can offer clients a comprehensive package ranging from design and implementation to service and maintenance. Since the Brinck Group also looks after the annually recurring calibration/verification of water and energy meters, Heijmans can expand its service package to include asset management.

The acquisition is consistent with the market trend towards decentralised energy generation and the development of so-called smart grids. These networks supply, transport and extract energy at times when weather conditions, supply and demand are optimally matched. The smart meters also give consumers a comprehensive overview of their consumption and consequently insight into the saving and sustainability of energy. These insights furthermore help in developing more sustainable homes and area development, and this way complement the activities of Property Development and Residential Building.
